About My Work
- - -

I have been painting for over 30 years. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Scientific Illustration from Cal State University, Hayward in 1981. My work has been included in shows at the Oakland Museum and the SFMOMA Artist’s Gallery as well as "Birds In Art", which is put on annually by the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum in Wausau, Wisconsin.

The style I prefer might be called “Painterly Realism”. That is, an approach that doesn’t seek so much to show every fine detail, but instead, a sense of detail through broader strokes of the brush. Mostly I like using oil paints on canvas or board, but have also produced works with acrylics, watercolor, graphite and lithograph.

In terms of subject matter, I gravitate toward natural subjects and various types of ornamentation. Birds have long been of interest to me, especially birds of prey, shorebirds and some of the more exotic types (i.e. hornbills).
